Mac Keith Press Payment policy for involvement in our publishing by families
Here is a summary of our policies around payment, travel, and childcare for families. Mac Keith Press values the contribution of families and those with lived experience in the development of our publications, and our website. Below are our standard rates for various activities, the exact amounts will be confirmed with you before you start.
You may prefer to decline payment or take a reduced payment: it is your responsibility to inform the relevant authorities of any payment received if you receive benefits and/or to declare any payments received if you are self-employed or in full-time employment.
Out of pocket expenses
Travel – where practical, please use public or shared transport.
| Bicycle journeys: | 20p per mile |
| Motorcycle journeys: | 24p per mile for first 100 miles, thereafter 9p per mile |
| Local bus/train (standard class)/taxi: | At cost |
| Car journeys: | 45p per mile for first 100 miles, thereafter 25p per mile |
| Childcare costs: | We can cover cost of childcare expense for parents to attend essential meetings. |
Writing, reviewing or content creation fees
Involvement in individual projects: Where possible, it is our usual practice for payment for involvement to be built into the publishing project proposed budget. The amounts of payment may vary and we will confirm these with you at the start of each project, and an indication of the likely level is given below.

| Other involvement in short tasks with a small amount of preparation. | £15-£25 |
| For involvement in a task or activity likely to require a moderate amount of preparation, including invitations to write short contributions (up to 1000 words), or contribute to podcasts or videos. | £25-£100 |
| For involvement in activities that require substantial preparation. For example, involvement in preparation of a chapter, online module, or full-length manuscript review. | £100-300 |
