For many parents, cognitive and behavioral comorbidities, such as ADHD, autism and intellectual disability, are the real burden of childhood epilepsy. This title offers concrete guidance and treatment strategies for childhood epilepsy in general, and for the comorbidities associated with each epilepsy syndrome and their pathophysiology. The book is written by experts in the field with an important clinical experience, while chapters by clinical neuropsychologists provide a strong theoretical background.

'The editor has assembled a remarkable slate of international experts who provide a coherent and comprehensive approach to the psychosocial aspects of childhood epilepsy. In less than 200 pages, this book presents up-to-date data and concepts about the prevalence, types, and treatment options for epilepsy cognitive comorbidities. Having so many expert opinions of thoughtful clinicians and researchers in my hands, in one place, with the ability to quickly scan so many important topics by flipping a few pages—more than warrants the modest cost of this volume.'
Carl E. Stafstrom, Journal of Pediatr Epilepsy, 2017
'This is a slim book, undoubtedly reflective of the fact that these issues, critical to any assessment of quality of life in epilepsy, have not previously been given prominence. Overall, there is a recurrent theme that this is a young field with limited data, but the concerns are critical to understand the pathophysiology of epilepsy and how to best protect the developing nervous system affected by the disruptive forces of epilepsy. There are as many questions as answers in this book, but presumably this is only a first edition that will be expanded in the coming years.'
Lawrence Brown, MD, The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia
'I kept the book by my side during some of my epilepsy clinics. Before or after seeing individual children, I also found it useful to refer to specific chapters on questions arising from the consultation. For example, is ethosuximide causing cognitive problems in a child with absence epilepsy or is it unwitnessed absence seizure activity – or perhaps the underlying condition? The book will also be a practical aid for clinicians wishing to take a modern evidence-based approach to treating and counselling children with epilepsy and their families.'
